As I was working my way up from the front desk to the front of the board room, I had one simple goal in mind: create a best-in-class patient experience that allows our O.D.s to focus on patient care, while our home office team focuses on the rest.

We started in 2001, and over the last 25 years, we have grown through partnering with over 900 of the finest private optometry practices and counting. Along the way, we have kept our “private practice DNA” close to heart, to provide your local community with only the best optometric care.

When we add our home office support team of experts in insurance, HR, marketing, merchandising, and other fields, your practice is empowered to grow and provide a long-term home to patients and staff alike.

MyEyeDr. empowers our patients to live their best lives by providing comprehensive eye care and an expansive selection of eye wear solutions. Our trusted community of doctors and team members make personalized vision health and wellness accessible for everyone. Together, we are committed to giving the gift of great vision by helping our patients see and do more.

Founded in 2001 with one doctor serving patients in Burke, VA, we’ve since grown to more than 900 offices approximately 30 states. Alongside our purposeful growth, our employees have built meaningful careers helping patients see and look their best.

Oct 2001

MyEyeDr. opened its first door in Burke, Virginia, on October 1st.

Dec 2012

Charles Bank joins Boston-based Monitor Clipper, who makes a majority investment. MyEyeDr. spanned 46 locations.

Oct 2014

Co-Founder, Sue Downes, was named CEO, operating 110 practices in the Southeast.

May 2015

MyEyeDr. enters the #10 spot on Vision Monday’s Top U.S. Optical Retailers Report, with revenues of $165 million and 139 locations.

Aug 2015

MyEyeDr. recapitalizes with Atlas Partners and Canada’s CDPQ fund, escalating its expansion into new markets.

Mar 2018

Prevent Blindness honored Sue Downes, CEO at MyEyeDr., as the recipient of the 2018 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award.

Aug 2019

Goldman Sachs division acquires Capital Vision Services (manager of MyEyeDr. Group) from Atlas and CDPQ.

Mar 2020

MyEyeDr. pauses clinical care in all locations for two weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic and establishes the OneFamily Fund, a 501(3)c charitable organization for all affected employees. Patient care resumes in 180 locations by mid-April.

Jul 2020

MyEyeDr. is one of three initial supporters when Black Eyecare Perspective launches IMPACT HBCU to educate students about the optometry profession through historically Black colleges and universities throughout the U.S.

Aug 2020

All offices are open and operational for patient care as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Sep 2021

The American Optometric Association (AOA) and MyEyeDr. announce a partnership to provide 500 of the companies paraoptometrics access to the association’s exclusive educational and professional development HUB, Eye Learn.

Oct 2021

MyEyeDr. marks its 20th anniversary with 750 locations across 28 states.

Jan 2022

The American Optometric Association announces MyEyeDr. as a founding partner of its forum (advocacy round table) for policy discussion and research, expanding proactive advocacy for member doctors and their patients.

June 2024

MyEyeDr. launches its official e-commerce shopping platform.

As an optometrist, I know how precious the gift of sight and health is to our patients, and as Chief Medical Officer, it’s my responsibility to make sure our organization delivers the highest level of clinical care in an environment that is fulfilling for the people delivering that care.

Our optometrists practice full-scope optometry facilitated by technology, equipment, and their support staff. We provide the infrastructure needed to diagnose, treat, and manage patients’ medical and vision needs. Not only are our doctors supported in their offices, they’re also encouraged to be participants in their communities. From our unique training and development partnerships, to mentorship opportunities outside the exam lane, we’re here to build your practice and enhance your career. We financially support society memberships, mission work, and clinical education for our doctors as well.
